Current Exhibitionbehind the scenesA Solo Exhibition by Joel Odesser
Exhibition period: 7 Sept - 11 Oct 2013 Gallery Hours: Mon - Fri - 9:00am - 7:00pm Sat 10am - 6pm Through artist seminars and exhibitions, the Artist-in-Residence programme brings inspiration to the Yew Chung community, showcasing works by YC students, the Artist-in-Residence team, and local and international talent.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Joel Odesser to showcase his work for our first exhibition of the year. Joel was one of the international panelists for our Yew Chung 80th Anniversary Capture 80 Photo contest earlier this year. He also led a photography techniques workshop, Light, Colour, Framing, Motion, with Secondary students during 12 Hour Art Day last year which was extremely well received. We are pleased to have Joel share his work and inspiration with us. Artist Talk with Joel (Tuesday, 10 Sept, 12:15 -12:40pm) will be a highlight. Come and hear first-hand from the artist about the process and inspiration behind his work! About The Exhibition:
Behind the Scenes - Resulting from a four-year observation of life in Hong Kong, the presented work explores the responsibilities of urban renewal and is a pictorial question about how standard of living and quality of life conflict and overlap. Hong Kong Lives & Lights, a subset of a parallel body of work showcasing an unusual visual experience, will also be exhibited. Patchworks, movement, and glowing lights present life as it happens in the turbulent Central district, reflecting the vivid urban mood in a merger of colors. Joël inherited his interest in photography from his grand-father. Since his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong in 2009, his photographic style naturally evolved artistically and his eye on Hong Kong has become sharper. Trained in engineering in France, Joël developed skills and his portfolio while travelling around the globe since 2003, in the Americas and more recently in Greater Asia. Photography became intimately connected to his passion for travel, as he likes to freeze memory of remote places and contrasting cultures through still images. Living in some of the world’s megacities led him to find a true interest in Urban Scenery both as an insider and outsider, providing a medium for him to pursue Photography as an Art, and as an experiment.
