The severe air pollution and deforestation she witnessed in Hong Kong led to an interest in the physical relationship between humans and nature. She currently insists on plein-air painting, a way to directly interact with her surrounding environments.
A YCIS alum, she was a recipient of the Creative Endeavour Award and Music Scholarship, and organized the school’s very first musical production. She graduated from Hampshire College, MA, USA, with a concentration on painting music compositions, and has had a number of solo and group exhibitions in Amherst and Northampton, MA. Mark MontgomeryEver since Mark first touched a crayon to paper he knew that his purpose in life was to become a professional artist. Everything he has done in life has pulled him to the fulfillment of that dream.
There have been many bumps and obstacles throughout the journey, but he has never wavered from reaching his goal. Mark was born with sight problems, which rendered him almost completely blind in one eye. He has never viewed this as a handicap though, but as a gift. This gives him a unique insight to his surroundings and strengthens his individuality as an artist. Mark was raised in Jacksonville, Florida by two loving parents who nurtured and encouraged his dream throughout his adolescence. Mark's parents, twin brother, and younger brother never allowed him to waver from becoming the artist they knew he could be. Mark received a full scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design where he majored in Sequential Art and minored in Painting. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts, Cum Laude in 2006. This art education strengthened his talents and introduced him to a wide variety of other art disciplines. His love of drawing expanded to include sculpture, graphic design, painting and many other disciplines. Currently Mark works and lives in Shanghai as an Artist-in-Residence at Yew Chung International School. He works to beautify the campuses and expand the creativity of the students through collaborating on artworks. In order to share his passion and point of view with the world, Mark continues to pursue a career as a professional artist |
